Why in Jobs for January- page 8 'quick jobs' (whilst in the depths of winter) are we being advised to spread Sulphate of Potash round the base of our fruit trees and shrubs, when in large letters on the front of the box it says " quick acting fertilizer to boost flowering and ripening of fruit".

Cheers,

Probably to promote flowering?
Do not put off thanking people when they have helped you, as they may not be there to thank later.

My Dad always used wood ash round his raspberries in the spring, so did his Dad before him who was a commercial nurseryman. I don't make my own wood ash but I still add some potash at this time of year.
Been gardening for over 65 years and still learning.
