Champion is very floury which is fine in Ireland and Scotland. It also has fairly deep eyes making it unpopular with modern cooks. It was bred in Scotland about 1860 but was mostly grown in Ireland

I know what you mean about floury spuds having the taste.
Personally, though, I prefer salad spuds, which retain a unique taste.
The creamy texture of Elfe is unlike anything I have found before in potatoes, well worth growth a few just to see how it grows where you are.
Never, ever, ever have I found a better spund than Linzer Delikatess. I know I go on about this, but on either clay or heavy clay this potato has "taste". Penards stock them, but they are expensive.
