Callistemon pallidus pruning

I normally just gently prune my lemon bottlebrush plant, but it is getting a bit too big for its boots, and I'd like to attempt a more serious haircut. When it's finished flowering, of course. Is this a good idea, or will I end up with a bare twig tree?

I know how to kill bottle brush plants, had 2 and both perished sadly
Been gardening for over 65 years and still learning.
