I'm asking because I have never succesfully harvested broccoli and cauliflower before. Last year my broccoli was very small and I let it stand there a little longer -thinking it just needed to grow some more- but flowers started popping out and I was too late. So basically I was wondering if this is the size the broccoli is going to get, or if perhaps I can still let it grow more? And I was wondering the same for my cauliflower. Both look ready but are still very very small. They are growing in a large container so it may not get as big as on solid land.

As you say they are both very small, it might be caused by the container growing or they might still improve. Watch the broccoli for the individual bits of the flower threatening to open into yellow flowers then it won't get any bigger. Similarly the cauliflower will have reached its limit when the florets start to separate. I hope they manage to get quite a bit bigger. We have eaten our first broccoli of the season and are having a cauliflower tomorrow.

:D Thank you! I will watch for the parts to separate and harvest as soon as the first signs show up :D

They are still growing! It looks like this is about to be my first ever succesful attempt at growing cauliflower and broccoli, even in a container on the balcony. Every day they seem a little larger.

Developing nicely, well done. (From someone whose attempts with brassicas have been miserable).
Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.
