How to create more humidity indoors?

Postby Elmigo » Sat Apr 27, 2019 3:49 pm

If you're also growing tropicals, they may require a more humid air. More humidity overall is good for your own lungs as well as the plants systems. How would you go about making the air in your home more humid? My appartment seems to have very dry air. I have found some water containers that you can hang on your heating radiator, they are pretty small and when you're not using the radiator I think it won't do as much. Also found electric devices that evaporate water. Usually they are small and need a refill quite often. Everything has pros and cons...

What do you think is the best way to create more humidity in your home for the plants aswell as your own health?

My instictive approach would be to see how you can control or increase the humidity around particular plants, rather than the whole house/flat.
You can mist plants using a hand-held spray; "air-plants" are maintained this way. Could you use a small/mini greenhouse and spray inside it?

Something like this might sit on your balcony: https://www.twowests.co.uk/palram-lean- ... grow-house
Or if you want something smaller: https://www.twowests.co.uk/gardman-grow-arc

If my memory is correct you are in the Netherlands so can probably find a local supplier.
Do you know what level of humidity you are looking for?

Keeping some small plants on a bathroom windowsill which benefits from steam from a bath or shower might help but Qi,d also suggest misting with a hand held spray container. This will also help wash off some of the inevitable dust in the air which settles on the leaves.
