I came across this video by accident - creating new rose plants by sticking cuttings into a potato and thought it was a gimmick but it seems in this case to have worked. Has anybody ever come across it or tried it? And are there some magical substances in a potato which makes it work, I wonder ?

Problem is almost all roses are grafted onto a stronger root, these plants may not be very strong.

I've seen this as well but dismissed it as mainly I have enough roses trying to bite me every time I need to weed. Tiger has a good point but it's certainly worth an experiment - a stem, a pot, a potato & a bit of compost? (Oh & a plastic bottle)! I don't know anything magical in a potato that roses would like, but I would try it for sure if I had an older rose with memories attached.
