We would not allow our landlord to put poison down even in pipes. We have cats and dogs who might find a dead rat and eat it ..... also you cannot be sure where they will die. eg under floorboards.
Also rat poison is the cruellest way to kill.
This house had been empty years and there were at least mice around. Now the only rodents I see are the dead ones the cats bring in to me. Some are chewed of course or half eaten. Poison gets into the food chain too easily.
Love the idea of chaining the trap to a post!
Oh rats!

When a farmer neighbour pulled down a old shed in the field behind us a load of rats moved to the headge at the bottom of our garden , we were worried about using poison with the dog chickens, birds and cats around , so we used the bendy pipe from a petrol can to force down the holes and poured rat poison deep into the runs of the rats , they soon disappeared and never had a problem again since. touch wood !!
If I could of done it my way I would of done it by now .......
