Can anyone recommend a really good book on chicken diseases, preferably one with a chart of symptoms to aid diagnosis?

Not a book as such but have you tried the Practical Poultry Forums:

http://www.practicalpoultry.co.uk

They have a great community that will help.

Hello Fen
There is book in the Gold Cockerel Series - 'Poultry and Waterfowl Problems' by Michael Roberts - that covers all the more common problems of poultry in a veterinary style. It also covers problems caused by common management faults. Costs about £8.
The book for serious chicken keepers though must be 'Diseases of Free-range Poultry' by Victoria Roberts, who is a vet. A very thorough book but probably far too much for those of us with just a few hens running around at the bottom of the garden. Its about twice the price of the other book.

I agree with Jerry about the Practical Poultry mag's forum. There's a very active community there full of ideas on every conceivable chicken problem. Its a pity that this new version of KG forum hasn't developed in the same way.

I believe plans are afoot. There is a planed move to new servers and new forums should follow soon after increasing the value of the overall resource, remember the new format here is still in it's infancy and is a far better set up than the old old one.

All IMHO of course.

Been thanked: 1 time

Yes - 'Diseases of Free-Range Poultry' is a fantastic book - albeit a bit scary

Another good book is 'The Complete Encyclopedia of Chickens' by Esther Verhoef and Aad Rijs.
'Preserve wildlife - pickle a rat'
