Been reading all your comments with interest. One question - can someone tell me how and when you worm chickens? Where do you get the tablets? liquid? or whatever you have to use?

I worm mine 3 or 4 times a year with a product called flubavent, you can get it from your vet or on line at places such as here:

This is a powder you mix with their feed. With this one there is no withdrawl period of the eggs for eating.

Buy the smallest tub on offer as it last for years if you only have a few hens.

I will order some. I only have 3 hens at the moment, but am hoping to get a few more once I know this silly flu thing has blown itself out. What a good site this is - I think I should register and use it more often. Nice to be among so many like-minded people! :)
