At least it is In our household. We have an enormous resident spider in our bathroom. He lurks down the plughole,
reappears every morning and has to be carefully lifted out before we can bathe to avoid drowning him.
I want to put him outside. Will he survive out there or are there indoor and outdoor spiders?

Somewhere where it can get out of the worst of the winter, a shed maybe?
Been gardening for over 65 years and still learning.

I think there are indoor & outdoor spiders, they look different to my undiscerning spider identification. So long as he was in the garage or shed he should be OK but your plug hole is his personal turf & he might be at risk from the other residents if you moved him! Leave him I'd say, part of your routine to fish him out of the bath this time of year & he is surely used to it as well!

Have you a space under the floor downstairs, Primrose? A loft or attic is too dry and warm, but a dampish undercroft would shut him/her.

I'm sure they managed before plug holes were invented...... :)

There's a large one that runs out from under the sofa late at night and does a tour of the room. He's been lucky so far as the cat hasn't got him.
