For those who like to feed the birds, we have just recycled an ancient Hills Hoist type clothes dryer which was destined for the council tip.

We just shortened its three extending arms to a third of their former length, (they sawed off quite easily' removed the broken plastic chord and stuck it into a new metal spike (£3.99 from Amazon) in the lawn near some bushes which provide cover for birds. It makes a great structure from which to hang three different bird feeder tubes. The rubber studs at the end of the metal arms have just been prised off and re plugged into the shorter arms to cover the sawn off metal ends. It can just be lifted out when you want to mow the lawn.

Any seeds which accidentally fall out and are not foraged for by ground feeding birds simply get mown down if they dare to germinate !
