It's to treat a bad cut on the upper surface of the hen's foot. I've cleaned the cut...and coated the wound with the stockholm tar. It forms a "crust" and prevents the hen pecking it (tastes foul) and gives the tissue time to heal. Also used to treat the hoofs of horses.

I knew about horses hooves, but not about chickens feet....so thank you for the answer.
