Although in residential area we always get a few bats, possibly becasue we are close to a wood which has a few old bunkers left. Tonight there is over a dozen or more flying around the back garden - hopefully a sign they have at least had a fair year for breeding!

Lucky you, Westi. I don't think our bats (mainly pipistrelle, but also noctule and Daubentons) have done at all well this year. The few evenings when it was fit to sit outside at dusk (when they usually fly round and round a very tall larch tree near our back door), we only occasionally saw one or two - there just weren't enough insects about.

We hope that enough of them survived to breed next year.
