You may have heard me before singing the praises of our favourite hoe. Although we have used it for years (razor sharp and beautifully balanced), we have just realised that there is some small writing impressed on the blade:
ELWELL 4875 - 6
Does anybody know whether they are still made (couldn't find anything on Google)?

Hello Monika,
I had an idea that Elwell tools became linked to other major players in the tool trade that lead to Spearwell...and thus using Spearwell as starting point found this; http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/A2A/ ... 8-06-18#-1
Part of the link was Skeltons...and indeed we have a Spearwell spade that is identical to an earlier Skelton example...
Clive.
