Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum so hope someone can help.

I have a problem which has been discussed before, I have read the previous posts but I am still having problems, here goes...

PROBLEM
My Qualcast 43S only runs on full choke, as soon I adjust to half or no choke, the engine stops.

SYMPTOMS
It's running very rich, black soot all over plug.
Drinking petrol!

TRIED SO FAR
Adjusting the main jet to 1 3/4 turns out.
Cleaned carb.
New air filter.
Removed head and de-coked.

Help! it's such a simple engine and set-up I'm at a bit off a loss now!

Thanks in anticipation.

Nigel.

Not being familiar with this engine. . . .

can you reset the valve timing?

Is there a slow tickover jet hidden away in the carb ?

After that I'm stumped. Cheers, Tony.

Tony,

Thanks.

Not sure about valve timing or hidden idle jet, I'll have a look

Cheers.

I have not read the previous posts that you mention, however I'm sure an expert like Clive may be able to help you.

Start with the simple things first, such as, if it only runs on full choke when hot then I'd look at the throttle spindle and gaskets to see if air is being drawn in. Just run it and pour some oil around any sources of air intake and listen for a change in running note of engine.

Best of luck

Barney,

Thanks for that, I'll have a go.

Cheers.

Nigel.
