Sustainable Growing Media Task Force Interim Report

Postby alan refail » Fri Jun 22, 2012 2:55 pm

The interim report of the Sustainable Growing Media Task Force March 2012 is here ... eport1.pdf

It is a long but interesting read showing that all aspects of peat use/reduction are being considered rather than charging forward on the assumption that peat use is per se wrong and that it will be "banned".

NB This is applicable only to England, not Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland.

I've only read through the Dr. Alan Knight personal perspective/foreword but if that is a reflection of the rest of it then it is quite promising. I particularly like the second para where he talks about the fact that Sustainability on its own is not enough and that to avoid the problems of the past with poor growing media an agreed performance standard is needed. Eureka! - or is it Hallelujah?
