Human beings are emotional beings, it is what makes us human. If we start on objective versus subjective that could keep the argument flowing subjectively for a while. Lets use bacon production as an argument, apologies to Piglet. Objective has to be quantifiable, measurable and capable of compariso...

An Espalier can be as big as you can reach. The remnants of an elizabethan mansion where I was born had espalier pears on the victorian owners extension that went the full height of the building, two high ceilinged floors of about fifteen foot each. Conversely, my father bought cordons apples on M9 ...

Water experiment.

John at our site is trying to recruit us all to his grand experiment for next year. He is starting it on his plot this year. Whatever you grow, whereever it is on the site, water half, do not water half. He had been talking to a veg exhibitor who claimed to never water his stuff and has decided to t...

Fly paper?

One of those UV fly killers you used to see in shops?

I always find myself covered in little black beetles if I wear my yellow T-shirt. The sort you find inside daffodils and nasturtiums.

Proper clogs

Maryn, last time I saw someone wearing proper clogs was about thirty years ago. I was in the Yorkshire Dales on holiday and this huge son of Yorksire was patching the market square in Ripon, steaming hot tar all around, and he was immune to it, just made his clogs more waterproof. And they had skegs...

Howard 350 Harrow attachment.

Paul Turner, are you still out there?

If not, does anyone else have a copy of the Howard Leaflet for the 350 Harrow attachment that they could scan and e-mail me?

Ahh I only teach PT Jopsy, don't say that OH will get all nostalgic about his army drill sargeant and the morning PT sessions. Anyway I thoght PT was a declining subject, what with having to wear jumpers in case the summer sun burnt the skin and all those risks. Yes I do know what yo meant by PT.

When FOE wield the scythe on GM crops I have to admit that I am with them all the way, provided they got the right field. All that government "science" abot one hundred metre pollen exclusion zones. What blew across the north sea from Denmark in sufficient quantity to show up on satellite ...

I reckon if I go one village west, dig up some chalk, water it down a bit and stick it in a tube I'll have Mr PH's toothpaste. :P

Hugh FW did the batter thing on one of his River Cottage programmes. Make a tempura batter, dip the flower in and deep fry in very hot oil for not very long. I note from memory that the flowers were just on the point of opening. :D

PS never tried it though. :?
