Our Lidl's takes debit cards - not sure about credit cards. i do get annoyed with them though 'cos they don't have baskets. the number of times I've had to search the shelves for an empty box to pinch and fill 'cos I haven't had a £1 coin for a trolley...

Good day here in Northants too! finished planting out the spuds and also got the onions and Jerulsalem artichoke in. (well, hubby did while I sat and planted 100 peat seed pot thingies with a variety of cabbage, caulies, brussels, spinach, lettuce etc etc)all available window sill space is now taken...

thanks everyone -I'll try all recommendations and am relieved to know I haven't got to tell my son to sacrifice his football/cricket pitch for the sake of a seed bed!

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I am new to all this... Lots of the gardening books & magazines I'm reading (along with the seed packets) refer to starting things off in seed beds and then transplanting. I've got 2 veg. patches each approx 17' square and am about to start digging a third...

Any alternatives to chickens??
