I would say it is an art and a hobby (and a skil and accomplishment)
I wouldn't call it an art like painting or music, more like martial arts or sports.

thanks JB. Thats almost exactly what I did. Only mine ended up later in, about Feb... I wish I'd got it in a bit sooner. Hopefully I'll do better this year. I'll put it in with my autumn onions. Westi I always buy organic potatoes, but the garlic isn't, and has grown really well, I've got some bulbs over 1 1/2" across they just need to split now Just to follow up on this. I harvested my 2 biggest bulbs today (and the small one, but that ended up a mono-garlic...) each had over 20 smal...

For some unknown when I get a frost the soil goes really stodgy and needs a good dig to sort it out. To be honest its probably got more to do with the extra rain ect before the frost
Snow doesn't seem to cause a problem though :/

heat... They will keep growing for longer in the dark than in the cold from my experience.
However, prepare yourself for a small crop this year. I've not seen many people do well with water melon this year

I dont know about any practical application, but garlic always seems to sprout well in the fridge. So maybe there is something to it
