Re: Blight free tomatoes.

Same here, most of my tomatoes got some bout of blight at some stage, but i managed to salvage most of them with French Bouillie Bordelaise (blue tomatoes anyone?) - the only ones that did not suffer at all were F1 Crimson Crush, which Suttons advertised (rightly in my case) as 100% blight resistant...

Re: Cosmos

Before getting a pack of free seeds with my KG Magazine, I had never heard of Cosmos... So I used the "Purity" seeds, thinking it would be a bit like daisies. I planted some seeds directly in the soil, and some I planted indoors... The ones in the soil did not do anything but I suspect the...

Re: Life on the allotment through photos

Lovely weekend so had lots of fun tending to the vegetables. A photo here of the raised bed with tomatoes and strawberries. OC29Aug16.jpg The tomatoes (San Marzano) were rescued from the brink of blight and now get a regular spray of "bouillie bordelaise" (bit weird to see blue tomatoes th...

Re: Life on the allotment through photos

Thanks Pawty - In this jar I put 2 types: Chioggia (with the white rings) and Burpees Golden. I put the F1 Pablo in jars on their owns that they don't color everything red at once! For the pickling I tried two types. One lot I put in the standard pickling vinegar from Sarson's and the other lot I di...

Re: Life on the allotment through photos

I jut looked at all your wonderful pictures of produce, preserving and nature. Well done all. I've had a few ups and downs. I'll forget the downs (like the blight or the foxes) and will just memorise the ups. .. Amazing tomatoes, carrots, strawberries beetroot and salads to name a few. Giant sunflow...

Re: Blight??

I've now cut a lot of leaves from my tomato plants (the ones i planted a bit too tight together), so they look like ostrich. If anything, it looks original. I've also trimmed the unruly growth to try to stem the outbreak of blight, create good ventilation and also re-did my irrigation system (cuttin...

Re: Blight??

Eek - I've just had to sacrifice 2 of my tomato plants (cornabel) in one of my raised bed as they were showing serious signes of blight. A couple of others show some suspicious black marks on some of the stems... My mother told me to get rid of the infected leaves and keep the fruits... Having said ...

Re: Photographic Tour of Plot 8-6-16

No secrets guys I'm afraid, just a lot of luck and I suppose a lot of new soil (as you know by now I only started gardening). Oh, I also talk to my plants, but not sure that counts... I also like to photograph things, so am sharing a photo of a courgette recently harvested. I'll find another thread ...

Re: Photographic Tour of Plot 8-6-16

Yep everything is outdoor. I do not have a greenhouse. I only have a conservatory where I put all the seeds to germinate in January/February, and then I planted everything out on the 8th of May (my neighbour told me the last frost had passed). Since then it has been outside and doing quite well. I d...

Re: Photographic Tour of Plot 8-6-16

Hello Westi Come on, your garden and produce photos look awesome. The artichokes - wow, I can't remember the last time I had some, but will look into this for next year (may need to sacrifice some of that green lawn...). and Pa Snip , thank you for your encouragement. Here is the last photo of the b...

Re: Photographic Tour of Plot 8-6-16

I thought I would also share some pictures of my vegetable raised beds. This year for us is all about learning and enjoying. And we love every second of it. Things are starting to grow nicely, and I think a lot is about beginner's luck and brand new soil & compost... Normally everything is under...

Re: Courgettes - Should I be worried?

Hi there No courgette glut yet but a few coming regularly. I am sure the glut will arrive when I go away for holiday in August... Never mind. Yesterday I sliced them in long slices, marinated them for a few hours in olive oil and lemon juice and then grilled on the bbq for a minute on each side. Del...
