Re: Seeds are In!

Robo - you've reminded me of a question I have. When selecting your 'best' seed potatoes to go in the ground, does the size impact quantity of crop? I always assumed 'best' referred to quality?

Re: Tapioca

Agree, local health (independent) shops definitely stock it near me, but is probably twice the price of what it use to be in supermarkets.

Marmite - love it, tapioca I'm afraid I'm on the hate it side.

Hope you find some.

Re: Using old furniture to make flower beds and planters

Hi Ani, I'm all up for up cycling - should be encouraged as much as possible. I've done up a few things (chairs and boxes) for inside, and out side have only really re used things for pots - sink, chimney pot, re claimed pots.. Have only re-used the wood from furniture once for something on the allo...

Re: Seeds are In!

Talking of seeds, if you're after a bargain park promotions have a sale. Basically, just the foils, but if you don't mind that, you can get seeds at 5p a pack! I've ordered from them before and I think delivery was cheap. Worth signing up to the emails as they have these sales every few months.

Re: 3d printing garden tools?

The technology behind 3D printing is amazing - my brother in law is an architect and uses it regularly producing fantastic scaled models. However, as Peter says - very expensive and probably wouldn't last anytime at all. Just my opinion but Better to use your money to buy good quality tools that wil...

Re: Your easy veg garden bookazine

I bought lots of seed from Aldi last year - veg, herbs and flowers. If I remember rightly they were 39p a pack! The varieties were basic, but covered most of what you need. I'm sure they'll sell them a gain this year, and cumulatively probably cheaper than the mag? Also great for community projects ...

Do you have any more info on the potato day in Whitchurch? I live in Hampshire so would be good to go along.

Thanks

I thought glycerol was 'an' alcohol but isn't in alcohol we drink? The alcohol we drink is ethanol, which is different.

Re: what would you advise

My allotment is a half, which hadn't been worked for many years. When I took it on, a more experienced neighbour said to me 'take your time, start small, don't try to do it all at once - and don't feel like you have to dig it all'. This was some of the best advice I have ever received on the allotme...

Re: organic gardening: yay or nay

I'm the same as pretty much everyone else 'pragmatic'. I don't use organic seed, I don't buy organic compost, I use slug pellets and insect spray ( but only when essential). I have an allotment and grow my own veg because I like to eat seasonally, know where my food has come from, appreciate how muc...

Re: Cancelled Subscription (almost)

My mother in law bought me a book on this ..... I'm afraid to say it's still on the book shelf .... When asked about it I obviously said it was great! I'm with plum pudding - my planting gets done when the weather allows and I'm not at work. And if I so so myself, I think I've done pretty well so fa...

Re: What was I eating ?

Could be Peperoncino Ciliegia Piccante - I had some free seeds for these last year from Thompson & Morgan - was going to try to grow some on the patio this year. Or could be tomatillo which is a cross between gooseberry, cucumber and tomatoes which are small and red. My husband had them on a rec...
