Re: Olympic Games tickets,
My plan is to watch the road cycling. I can park at a friend's house near Hampton Court. I may do this for the Time Trials and find another friend near Box Hill for the Road Race.
If I decide I really want to see some of the inside of the facilities, I think I may buy tickets for the Paralympics.

Re: Best/worst thing since sliced bread?
I always buy granary bread. I love the malty, nutty flavour. If it is Chorleywood ptocess, it doesn't taste like it. The texture is not that of a "sliced white" and I don't give it the opotunity to go stale!

Re: Broad beans
I've picked some (and jolly delicious they are too). Lots of pods but small beans. These are from the autumn planted plants. The spring planted beans are yet to pod.

Re: Cucumber E.Coli outbreak
I wonder if the UK authorities would have managed any better? Two issues: The treatment and containment of the outbreak - could we (or other countries) have reduced the death toll? (I doubt we would have been different from Germany) Would we have been less ready to attribute (incorrectly) the blame?...

Re: It's raining!
Geoff Fascinating figures. Here in Herts we are in East Anglia and the rainfall over the past three months has been 36%, 11% and 15% of average, which is why I was so happy when it was raining. It was raining this afternoon too (affecting the Lords Test too). However, my onions are looking better th...

Well done Peter.
For realising, from the peace and solitude of a bath, what was happening AND for a superb bit of action too.
I don't suppose the dog will be in the least grateful!

Re: Cucumber E.Coli outbreak
I confess I had never thought about it in connection with veg.
In my ignorance, I had thought that a veggie diet was pretty safe with respect to food poisoning.
I am now better informed.

It is a sad to loose contemporaries. Different from loosing those older than yourself.

Re: It's raining!
Again nice drizzley rain here in the far-too-dry-recently Chilterns. I am sorry to hear that in Yorks and Lancs you have had too much rain - wouldn't it be nice for all of us if it was spread around better! It also strikes me as extraordinary that despite the weeks and weeks of dry weather that come...

It's raining!
Here in Herts!
Horray
It's a bit on and off, but at least this has been the case for most of the past few hours. I hope it will carry on for a few more.

Re: Veg boxes - would you buy one?
So, are these sorts of schemes the way forward for healthy fresh food buying? Or are they just a scam on gullible middle-class families? These are not mutually exclusive questions. At the prices you have quoted they certainly don't represent value for money. In the past I assumed that the objective...

Hi
Staggered or succesional planting is a good idea but whether you mix the beans together or not is really up to you.
I do, and just pick, mix and cook French or climbing beans with my runner beans together (and used mixed beans in the chutney too).
