Re: Life in the 1950s
I didn't see the whole prog. but being a young teenager in the 50's, we always had school lunch and if we didn't eat what was put in front of us we went without. It was bread and butter tea when we got home. I never remember having pilchards and mash or cold liver, as for dripping - Mum just never h...

Re: Blight resistsnt tomatoes
In my opinion Fandango from Kings is an improvement on Ferline. I have grown both and prefer Fandango for taste, a very good even size. Both have much to same resistance but not totally.

Re: Beetroot protaction
Maybe JohnN but then I don't water any more after planting. I sow in modules about 5 seeds to a cell and plant out in clusters. They get a good watering in and then the roots have to go down and find their own. I thin when they are about the size of a golf ball and eat those first, these are the bes...

Re: Sowing tomatoes in individual pots
I grow several varieties to but start them off in quarter size seed trays. When about 2" tall prick out into 3" pots setting them up to their seed leaves and later on will pot on to 6" pots so I get a good size plant to put out on the lottie mid-to end of May. They will need careful l...

Re: Beetroot protaction
I'm surprised you lost your beetroot last year JohnN usually beetroot is a trouble free crop to grow. In very dry weather wood lice can be a problem but they don't usually destroy all of it. Hopefully you were just unlucky and this year will do better. You could grow under enviromesh but if it was m...

Re: Onions grown from seed, advice please
I wouldn't grow these in clumps. Kelsae is usually grown for show purposes as you say Par Snip they will hopefully make very large onions. I wish you luck.

Re: Repairing enviromesh
Ricard, Yes I did try the Aqua sure with a piece of the Duck tape either side to stop it seeping through and it really didn't hold very firm. As with the PVA I am sure once wet it will come drift. No idea what hot sun would do as well. I think hand sewing would work on a small hole but as I said I h...

Re: Repairing enviromesh
Having spent all last week-end trying out your suggestions I think it is back to drawing board folks. Being such a slippery non porous surface the poly tunnel tape had no staying power at all and just peeled off; a patch using a piece of mesh with the Aqua Sure glue didn’t stick either. No idea how ...

Re: Repairing enviromesh
Are you on commission Richard? Only joking but a very good recommendation. It arrived in the post today - next day delivery can't do any better than that. Now I just need the tape and it will be all systems go.

Re: Repairing enviromesh
Thank you Richard I did have something in mind like putting a backing of tape on first then a patch of the mesh. I have ordered poly tunnel tape and the glue so watch this space say.
