Hi Jenny Yes, this is the first year I have ever seen it inside. The plastic greenhouse in question is a few years old now and for the last couple of weeks I have had the door rolled up perminately so it is possible the spores blew into the house and it can get very humid in there. Frustrating to sa...

I grew it but tend to use it in the Autumn/winter along with dried Barlotta Beans in the classic Tuscan Bean Soup. Never nice with the ribs removed and steamed or stir fried as well. Not tried the ministrone but sounds very nice. In a few weeks time I may be able to add more as about to head to Umbr...

Been updating my Blog with recent developments on the plot, on the down side Blight, but it has not been all bad by any means:

Just hope I can get the spuds out of the ground in tact and that I get enough toms to give us our annual supply of dried, sauced, frozen, souped, etc.

New arrivals!
Picked up my two new hens this moring, they are Speckledy's. They seem very calm and quite and the old hens are not taking much notice of them yet. In a temporary run for a week or 10 days next door to the old hens so they get used to each other. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y222/sandersj89/Allo...

Bit down so needed a lift
Went to the plot this evening with a bit of dread as Blight has arrived, it has hit some of the toms very hard and also some of the spuds. Stripped lots of foliage from the toms and cut away the tops of one spud, Ratte. Looks like I will be doing the same with the second Earlies and mains soon. But ...

I would wait, they do seem to spread a little over the season. One little trick I use, not sure if there is any scientific basis for it, is if there leaves in the center of the plant are starting to twist in on themselves then I think they will start to form a curd. Same seems to go for certain cabb...

Blight – Sussex
Well blight has arrived in West Sussex. Despite spraying the warm damp/rain over Sunday morning, Monday night has been ideal for blight to spread. Going to the plot last night to re spray after the wet there are signs of blight of Ratte spuds, quite bad so the haulms will be cut down as soon as I ca...
