I've been trying to find out for you - I have the idea it's to do with a vitamin B deficiency but I didn't want to say for sure until I was certain. It wouldn't hurt to give half a crushed Brewers Yeast tablet anyway - that's what mine get sprinkled over their food now and again anyway. Try posting ...

I grew the self blanching type - but it wasn't really - just came out a big green stringy lump of celery type plant. I tried earthing up some of it and putting cardboard around other celery plants (which really defeats the self blanching) but even this wasn't successful. Still ended up as a big gree...

Goji berries

I've just tasted a free sample of goji berries in my local health food store - delicious. Has anyone any information on whether they would grow in this climate? Anyone tried growing them?

free cute little pekin cockerels

Yes - I know I should have culled them - but they were so beautiful  . Two little boys - 1 white splash and 1 grey cuckoo. FTGH.

Very friendly.

I've also heard that you can put a couple of teaspoons of cooking oil in the water but (but not if you are putting goldfish in as well!).

The oil forms a film on the surface of the water which clogs up the breathing tube of the mosquito/midge larvae.

Maybe they aren't all laying anyway. Perhaps some are too old or too young? Do you know how many eggs they were laying before you started to look after them?

hanging baskets

Has anyone dared to put out a hanging basket yet? I live in south Dorset - and I'm thinking of hanging one up tonight - on the bracket by the kitchen door (it's sheltered there) in case I have to nip out quick and take it in if the weather man forecasts frosts. The greenhouse is so full of tubs and ...

gooseberry pest

Last year I grew gooseberries and lost the lot to the sawfly. When do I start spraying to avoid this happening again this year? and what do I use? Advice appreciated.
