Re: How do you cook?

I follow recipe word for word first time then change when it does not work or I think I can improve it. Not interested in anything with meat..too much good cheap healthy veg options about. I prefer web base recipes which has a person/portion calculator that I can change as often find that in the boo...

Re: Saving Sweet Potato

Don't feel good about starting from seed, reviews not good. Plan for this year is try growing slips from last years potatoes, plus try and find an organic one as well. Going to plant in low cover over part of a raised bed and in bucket in green house. Found best result last year was in bucket in a c...

Re: Saving Sweet Potato

Comments on Amazon for growing from seed do not look very positive.

Re: Mid Winter Bits and Bobs.

Would moving the path in front of the conifers give you more growing space?

Re: wrapper which the magazine comes in

Is there a need to wrap the magazine apart from enclosing the seeds & flyers?

I get catalogues from seed supplies through the post without any extra wrapping some have small sticky label to keep book shut.

Flyers could be printed in the mag, perhaps fold a page over to make pockets for seeds.

Re: Do you have new live Christmas tree every year?

I use window 7 when I right click a picture it gives me a drop down menu with a option to rotate clockwise/anticlockwise.

Saves the need to open picture to edit it.

Re: New composting bins

I put all the sucked up shredded leaves in my hot compost as thinking it gets done a bit quicker than a year or 2 using the black bag method.

Re: New composting bins

I have heard of success of using large builder bags, but never tried myself. Wondering who does hot or cold composting and do you turn it or leave it. I have been shredding loads of neighbours trees using a Bosch AXT 25D shredder/chipper a great bit of kit, it also shreds cardboard as well. "wi...

Re: New composting bins

I use pallets for composting & scaffold boards for beds. I have a 6 bay set up made using pallets, I lined the inside of the bays with cardboard and put a roof over them to keep rain off, also have plastic on the top of the pile. Tips: make the separating bays in 2 parts to you can remove top pa...

Re: GQT - well rotted organic matter

Hi Westi, I do not have the technical answer to your question I just put down to the worms doing all the work. Looked at my muck pile yesterday there were loads of worms doing their stuff, looked at the Christmas spud bed and again worms doing their stuff. My compost seems moist compared the earth o...

"Remember to sow the seed with the hilum (black scar) downwards as this is where the root will emerge."

Thank you John, I did not know that.
