Re: Why relaxing in the garden is so exhausting

Chin UP Robo Some have read the situation I am currently going through. I may, or may not, make it to the end of the year. I could sit back on my bum and say that's it there is no point in my working on the allotment now, however I have taken the opposite approach and said keep going, derive pleasu...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

Westi, Nice one. Lovely splash of colour. Sadly on our site we have one or two who do not seem to appreciate that we need the assistance of both bees and flowers, they want the bees to do their work on their crops but moan about the flowers on other peoples plots self seeding on theirs. Blinkered vi...

Felix
Carters packet is a colourful reminder of a time gone by.
Thanks for adding the picture

It was only a few days ago I pointed out to Mrs Snip where Suttons used to be when their head office and grounds were at Reading

Re: Why relaxing in the garden is so exhausting

Oh so true.

Other fatal mistake is just
"popping into the garden centre for a look around"

One used credit/debit card later !!!!! :)

Re: Brown/Fothergill

Yep
Meant to raise this subject myself then forgot all about it :D

D T Brown and Mr Fothergills are connected. Just that D T Brown are not available under that brand in shops.

Thompson and Morgan are connected with Van Meuwen

Anybody know of any others.

Re: Blenheim Palace Garden Show

What an enjoyable show this was. Now in its third year and held within the grounds of Blenheim Palace, parking was easy and the location scenic. As the title of the event is actually Blenheim Palace Flower Show I guess I should not have been surprised by the lack of kitchen garden vegetable plants. ...

Re: Levington muti purpose compost

It's s becoming a growing problem to find decent compost, the quality of which can be relied upon from year to year and most of us can't generate enough of our own whose provenance we can rely on. Very true Primrose. Trying to improve the natural time it takes to break a compost heap down to fine t...

Conversely, this year we found Jacks Magic's standard to have fallen. A lot of small twig particle content and not good germination results

Re: Levington muti purpose compost

Hi Alan I had been looking at Clover products webpage yesterday. Having seen your recommendation I looked a bit deeper into their site this morning. Sadly there appears to be no one within a sensible distance of where we are in Berkshire (and we are not out in the sticks) that is a stockist. No doub...

Re: Levington muti purpose compost

Couldn't agree with you more Bob about the quality of Levingtons MP compost of late. We have written in praise of it in the past however the bags we purchased recently are full of wood stuff and frankly appalling. I even resorted to looking on the net yesterday for 100% peat compost but found costs ...

Re: Strawberries

Apologies for the very long post but I thought it was an experience worth sharing. Geoff, very worthwhile sharing indeed. From reading it I would say it is another case which suggests sticking with an older 'heritage' variety perhaps. Mind you, given the amount of new variety strawberries that are ...

Pea'd Off

I've mentioned before about the problems experienced this year with germination. Beans and Peas in particular have been a nightmare. Don't know why for sure, have done nothing different to previous years and have never had such problems before. I can only think that maybe this year I have been too h...

Re: Still learning the benefits of home grown.

Pink Fir Apple seems to be classified by some as a salad potato and by others, such as the RHS, as a maincrop. First Early potatoes are harvested from around 12 weeks after planting sometimes that means during flowering or very soon after. Maincrop around 20 weeks after planting. Both of course bein...
