Re: What I harvested today!
Good One Robo! They were tiny parsnips! I roasted them & some carrots & that turnip tonight. I have never roasted turnips before, but they were the stars. The parsnips were indeed too skinny and went too hard! That Mooli is going into a Chinese chicken noodle broth to give some crunch. Made ...

Re: What would you call yours...and why?
Oh Diane, that's not the best news when he/she had a name. Surely they could have replicated his habitat & left him to live out his years then preserved him? I had a spider in my bedroom as a kid I called Harold the Huntsman. (I think he was a Huntsman, but he could have been anything). He moved...

Re: What I harvested today!
This is todays little harvest, the frosty start turned out short lived. Last 2 courgettes, only tiny but the plants have gone, so consider myself lucky to have these that didn't freeze as the leaves drooped on them as they got caught! Tasted my first natural frozen raspberries and blackberries as I ...

Re: First Frost winter 2016
First frost on lottie overnight here at the seaside - glad the neighbour took photos of the dahlias, they are not quite slime, but nearly. Nasturtiums are at that see through phase, so will be gone when it rains tomorrow. Massive leaf fall from the fruit trees & hedge row, 2 bags collected alrea...

Re: Flowers
Mine stay in with a nice blanket of mulch for a couple of years but then I lift and divide the tubers so as not to let them get crowded out. Even the tiny ones get a chance as a pot plant at this stage, but they have the biggest fail rate by far so only if I really like it and it is a smaller variet...

Re: You grow them, but how do you eat them ?
If it's something new it gets the raw taste and the cooked taste separately, then I kind of figure what it might go with, then it is the mash up on the fork to check I was right. I kind of overdo the veg when available so have several alongside the protein source - but agree some sauce or gravy is t...

Re: KG forum seeds trial 2017?
Like the idea Pawty!
I'm in for that even in not the whole pack. Might make the seed suppliers give better information for different parts of the country as well. Also would be interested in what treatments members use for different things, both soil prep and bug control!

Re: Early Autumn Bits and Bobs - 2016.
Always the optimist Monika! Perhaps we should give more respect to whitefly as they do seem to do well even at low temperatures, but even those that don't make it still need washing off thoroughly. Funny there was a raw milk story on BBC news today - all I thought off was where is there a farm near ...

Re: What I harvested today!
I grow mooli and quite like it. I succession sow just a few on the end of rows, as they can get quite big if left in too long, so still have a few around the plot. It gives crunch to stir fries in rings or batons, I grate it into salads as it tastes cool & refreshing (that temp not hip hop), and...

Re: Flowers
Beautiful Pawty - very cheerful simple flower shape, bet the bees liked them! One of my lottie neighbours was taking photos of my dahlias on Sunday - all large and in flower. He was interested in what variety - 99p shop, £ shop, or Inexcess didn't satisfy so he had to take the pics to research himse...

Re: In your shed
My shed is just for sitting out the rain showers and storing the tools & stuff. I rarely sit down at lottie and have drinks & snacks on the hoof, but have my plastic table & chairs by the side when 'entertaining'. My neighbour has 2 sheds, one used much like mine but they have decked out...

Re: Early Autumn Bits and Bobs - 2016.
16 degrees on lottie today! Twas lovely! Cut back the last of the apricot raspberries then thought I may as well clear the whole of this back corner so tackled the Jerusalem Artichokes & the hedge row along the back. Farmer has done his side and must have had a slighter longer cutter on as with ...

Re: sprouts
Mine look different to yours Pawty. Must be a different variety, mine are more green with a purple tinge on the stalks and they are more open like little cabbages. Mostly the same with the white fly though, but the sooty leaves are dropping off & it doesn't seem to be getting on the leaves highe...

Re: Early Autumn Bits and Bobs - 2016.
I've seen it a few times, didn't note which particular topic though! I just thought it was a new feature to start off a thread quicker. Balmy 14 degrees here at the moment, had all these plans for putting in bulbs and stuff today, but still got so much in bloom & looking healthy - I couldn't mak...
