Here I'm looking in the other direction. Several pictures as I step downhill and more or less northward, looking more or less east, a bit towards the south.

I hope this isn't vainglorious but as it was a sunny day
I thought I'd take a few pictures of my plot. I have annotated them, to give you a better idea of it.
This is one of the delights, as I have a view out to the hills and the town

Re: Cane balls?
I have created a large tunnel using blue water pipe arches, which I net up, then remove for the winter. This works because it is over a single long bed of gooseberries. Slide2.JPG On other areas, I'm using bottles on poles. This is where I have two rectangular beds, so I'm not sure I could do it as ...

Re: Early Spring Bits and Bobs.
I think it may well be time to get the early spuds in and cover them with a fleece tunnel. I'm determined that this year, I just start lifting them "on schedule" as it were. Too often the undergardener and I have found ourselves with too many new potatoes (but probably not quite "new&...

Re: New Book
True, as one leafs through various books in a bookshop, it is far too easy to be seduced by the pictures and print rather than the content of the text.

Re: Only in a couple of tubers but what is this disease?
Hi Sally Thank you very much. That is very comprehensive. Not every one of your suggestions is easy but I shall try. I can certainly fleece the crop. Sadly last year's foliage is already in the compost bins. I do remove volunteers as they crop up. (I am always astonished at how many small tubers get...

Re: Early Spring Bits and Bobs.
Diane I had already layered several bushes, gooseberries take so easily, so have at least as many as I can cope with. So I just moved one from the edge of the plot, where it always tangled with the netting and dropped it in the middle where it should not. There is another older one, I have my eye on...

Only in a couple of tubers but what is this disease?
This was a stored potato. Stored in the allotment shed.
Harder that I would expect, one can easily feel spuds which are too soft, this was too hard and obviously suffering from something.
There is a bit of slug damage too.

Re: Early Spring Bits and Bobs.
Couch. Nasty.
This winter I dug out and burned one very old but productive gooseberry bush because it was enveloped by couch. I put a younger, smaller bush in its place.

Re: Pa Snip
No OH, I ducked out after the ceremony.
Sorry. I should have said: Did you see a little sports car (Caterham 7)? That was me/mine.
Spent all afternoon on the allotment. I had some sweet peas to plant out (which didn't take long), did lots of weeding (endless work) and just tidying up in general.

Sorry to have missed you.
I was upstairs in the overflow.
The jacket with the bright green vege was pretty spectacular!
