I agree with Alan you can be very rough with them and just stick em in the side of the pot/container and forget them.

Thanks Geoff, Good question, I think I was intending to put them in hanging baskets or those pouches that hang on the wall - just wasnt expecting to make that decision just yet. Thanks for the reassurance.

Tomato in flower!

Hi all First time growing Tumbling Tom, they are still in 3" pots on the g-house bench but have come into flower - proper open flowers. I have frost proof heating. Could anyone advise me what to do with them as I'm guessing there isnt enough root or sun to produce decent fruits. Thanks David

When I bought my greenhouse last year I made sure to buy auto ventilators and blinds at the same time. Plants need reasonable warmth and a good light level, thats all. If you bake them and dazzle them its worse than being too cool and too shady. Personally I think the paint on stuff dosen't look tha...

Thanks for your help. We are moving house in the next month so I'll leave them alone and think again when we get there.

Only just seen this so not sure if you will see what I write but here it is anyway. Last year as an experiment I made a bed 6ft by 2ft by 5inches (!) on top of some flags that formed a path under the garage window. South facing and in full sun I just filled it with growbag compost and planted it up....

Last years strawberries in g.bags - what now?

Hello everyone, Last year I grew some strawberries in growbags in the greenhouse with great success. I just left them there all winter and now they are showing signs of getting going again. Question is what should I do with them - move them to a new grow bag, plant them outside or just feed the old ...

Root Trainers are best used for?

Hi all

Thought I'd try Rootrainers this year so have bought a 20 pack.

Could you recommend the best plants to try them on as I start sowing for the new season.

Thanks

I was thinking the spores that will have gotten into the air from the movement of the dead plants may have stuck to the framework? I'm very happy if you are right. I use collapsible plastic crates with a card liner and fill them with grow bag compost. All the compost is long gone so if I just wash t...

Blight - greenhouse cleaning

Not sure where to put this question - but here goes.

I had blight on the tomatoes in the greenhouse last year, can anyone tell me the procedure for cleaning/fumigating to ensure there aren't any spores left to drop onto the new seedlings/plants.

Thanks very much,

David

Very interesting replies, thanks for taking the time. I can see that that black crinkled look probably comes from a lot of late med or african sun - sadly in damp Salisbury we dont get a lot of that....... I was in portugal recently and to replicate that heat I'll have to use a blowtorch! David

Ripening passion fruit.

I have a west facing wall covered in orange passion fruit.

Can anyone tell me if these will be edible and at what stage. I know the shop ones are very dark and starting to wrinkle but do they get like that while still on the plant?

Thanks for any advice.

When planting other spring bulbs, like flowers I plant on half an inch of sand to make sure the bottoms aren't sat in water.

Might work.

I wonder if I should be growing lettuce in the greenhouse as well as the garden. Would that give me any advantages/problems?

Thanks
