Re: Walnuts
I don't know about walnuts, but my general advice would be to mulch it. If nothing else it'll help keep weeds down

Re: Tomato feeding
Personally, if they are in the ground, I don't use anything, but I have very fertile soil this year, having spent most of the last 2 years just digging in compost to the beds. They are currently 6 foot higher than the lowest point I dug them to, (dug down about 4.5 for, built up about 1.5) However t...

Re: Mid Summer Bits and Bobs.
Westi, without a photo its impossible to assess the damage, but with an asparagus bed, usually if its getting weak, and its not depleted soil, digging the crowns and splitting them can help.
Other than that, skipping next years harvest will strengthen them no end

Re: Garlic experiment
I just shake of the soil and hang them up in my blokes-cave ... I wouldn't say that the man-cave is tidy. Ever. Haha, I'm sorry Ricard, I'm loving the idea of hanging garlic in the man-cave, I suppose it stops batman moving in and taking over? I shouldnt laugh. My shed is my man-cave, and I have al...

Re: Mid Summer Bits and Bobs.
My little girl (2) loves digging the raised beds, planting seeds and pulling everything up. And of course eating it. Mrs and I haven't seen a single strawberry because she just eats them straight off the plant

westi you were right. The culprit had 2 legs, 2 wings and beady little eyes. Yup, a Crow.
As for shop galic, that's how I grow garlic. Just make sure its "local" garlic. For me, there's no point growing garlic from Spain as an example

Re: Remove slug slime
I use salt like JB, that or I currently have a tub of "tough bits" hand putty from my local pound shop, works a treat, but I tend to leave that for when I've been working with oil, as thats what its really made for. However, next time I get slugs in my plastic shredder, it'll get rid of bo...

Not nice, but at least they only last a day (and groggy the next day from not eating). Actually,...
