Season end soon, so it's time to.summarize. That's how my plants look now:

Look at that large bulb, grown from slip. Purple variety. All of them grow on open space without any greenhouse.

Re: Kiwano (horned melon)
Year ago first frost at September 22. This year it may be better, or not. Next 10 days, average 18/8 degree day/night expected. Hot summer is over definitely. I'm not expecting yellow fruits to harvest, but some greens should be generated.
BTW how is yours? Have you got some fruits?

Re: Growing eddoes in the UK
It's a very attractive looking plant. Much more decorative than potatoes. Do they summer from any particular diseases like blight? As far as I know, red spider mite is common problem, although I'never seen it on my plants. But snails and slugs sometimes eat leaves or young shoots. No any particular...

Re: Growing eddoes in the UK
I had planned to start them indoors in February/March and then move them outside. Does this sound like a good plan? Yes, that's what I did. Plant them indoors, and move outside as soon as night temperature is above 10 °C. For best results, you can even plant them indoors now or in September/Novembe...

Re: Kiwano (horned melon)
Well, so far I am disappointed. I don't believe I will able to get the same result as I got last year, at least. Unless September will be hot and sunny, which is not going to happen. Start almost 3 weeks later than year ago, that makes huge difference.

Re: Kiwano (horned melon)
I suspect yours must be bigger now, as you started earlier than I. More-less one month remaining to first frost, so I am expecting much smaller crop than last year unfortunately.

Re: Saving Sweet Potato
In the past tried growing slips from shop brought potato without success. Yes, that's what I am talking about. If you try just to put them to water or ground, no chance for success. I bought from shop on November 2019. After 3 months, 90% of them decayed. Small green shoots appeared on 3 bulbs (aft...

Re: Saving Sweet Potato
Main problem is that edible tubers form market don't want to grow eaisly, it takes very long time and most of them are rather going to decay, without creating any slips. From your experience, are your own tubers better? I suspect some kind of chemical preparatrion has been used on fruits available t...
