Re: Peach Leaf Curl
HI All I think I have saved one tree not nearly as badly affected but I think it is my white peach and I really like the golden flesh ones - probably all in the mind though. I still have fruit on the really poorly tree and they are growing but it is a real mess. I can't take any more leaves off but ...

Re: The new melon plant . . .
Hi CJS You have well and truely caught the bug!! Well Done. I am putting my melons outside this year. I have dug in well rotted manure and stuff in the bed and shall be planting through membrane to keep them warm and snug. I doubt they will need much more nutrient at ground level so I will probably ...

Onions
Hi Ya My onions all seem to be flowering already. I am nipping them off but as quick as I do there are more. They are bulbing up but are a way off a decent size. Will it be alright to just keep nipping or should I settle for smaller bulbs? Whenever they have done this before they didn't store well a...

Harvesting to Dates
Hi Normally I just watch and harvest as things appear ready, however lately I have been talking to people who sow and harvest on particular dates. Some is date from sowing but others is handed down advice. Does anyone harvest to date and if so do you mind sharing success and dates as I would be inte...

Re: bickering on forums
I work in the health service and the most embarrassing thing is going out with colleagues and they just talk shop - loudly! While a little bit of black humour releives stress it has to be in measured quantities and anonymous - you don't know who is listening and whose relatives they might be! I pers...

Re: Poorly Pear
Still at a loss as to what it is but it isn't fireblight as I scrapped the bark back and it was OK. I have cut out all the bad bits and burnt them. The progress down the branch from the brittle dead bits is rough bark so it is something external I think. Anyway no pears off that tree but the other o...

Re: What a World!
News today - they have (hopefully) caught the culprits. Police took up surveillance and just as they were leaving at change of shift they caught 2 teenagers hoping the fence at midnight with a poor excuse. Although not charged yet it is a step forward. Interestingly the police themselves were challe...

What a World!
I was bemoaning the fact that I had some plants stolen only to be informed that someone had been on the plots and killed loads of chickens. Separate incidents and different folk have had their girls beaten to death. When they do those profiles on mass murderers they quite often find animal cruelity ...

Re: Pumpkins
Perhaps that is something we could do via the forum - create a new Pumpkin / Squash. My favourite is Queensland Blue or Crown Prince but I would cross them with a smaller sized one to create something you don't need an axe to get into! Market it well and grow it on our plots and gardens and we could...

Re: Sweet Potatoes?
Hi PeterGreenMan They look fine. Mine were in pots some the size of the one in your picture and the others as wide but not as deep. Despite the foliage being pretty even in growth the roots were quite variable - some of them filled the pot and the others were quite sparse. When I bought slips they w...

Poorly Pear
Help Needed My Pear Tree started to get leaves turning black and dying and now it is progressing to the branches with the whole end of the branches going brittle and dying. At first I thought it was my neighbour who had been spraying Round Up as it was so patchy like it was wind blown and only on on...

Onions Flowering!
I can't beleive it - my overwintering onions are already getting flowerheads. I nip them off but it is a pain as they really don't store very well when they flower. It is mainly the red onions but noticed a couple on my shallots as well. I know I am pretty far south but not that temperate! Looks lik...

Re: seeds have arrived.
I've got an e-mail to say mine will be in the
next wave which will be too late to plant
so to save them for next year.
Obviously don't have the same connections
as OH!!
