Re: Mid Summer Bits and Bobs.

Interesting to hear your comments on sweet potatoes Westi. I am growing some in buckets under a cheap plastic green house which has just collapsed so taken plastic off hoping will still get result. The other is under a cold frame which is only opened to water. The vines are spreading along the groun...

I understand trimming of vine tomatoes but what do you do if anything to bush tomatoes?

Seems mine have gone mad.

Re: Replant Potatoes

Thanks Tony looks like I will have to buy some.

Seen 3 types for salad, will probably try the chips & roasting roasting variety as like you we like roasted spuds.

Another option the machine has is steaming which I used for the beetroot the other day. Quiet & less mess that using microwave.

Re: Co-incidence or a sign?

I have no interest in the designer garden show but give me a program on allotments or veg growing then I'm hooked. Best bits on Monty Doms show has been the bloke from Lincolnshire that showed his veg bed set up from beginning and the allotment set up in Birmingham. As a side note there was a young ...

Re: Changing Recipe Servings

It is 10 inches diameter & height 13 inches How easy is it to programme? Very easy select option (pressure/steam etc) walk away and let it do it's stuff. Can you override the preset programmes? Yes Does it really let the steam out without me monitoring? Yes. There is a slight hiss when getting t...

Re: Beetroot surprise

Never knew you had to let sit for an hour to carry on cooking, or to add sugar.

I braved hot fingers to peal beetroot then put straight into vinegar guess it will be ok.

Re: Changing Recipe Servings

Hey Westi that's the type I am using nothing like the old ones from the past. Great for pasta, veg & fish although fish is off the menu as local supermarket has closed its wet fish counter and gone prepacked which I refuse to buy.

Re: Mid Summer Bits and Bobs.

Multi sowed different types of beetroot then planted them out with good results...Perhaps that will work for you.

Re: Changing Recipe Servings

Yes I have a freezer but usually full of surplus grown veg.

I am not in favour of making a large load and freezing it.

When I make a veggie chilli there is always enough for 2 days so I have it two days consecutively sometimes it goes into three days.

Re: Mid Summer Bits and Bobs.

I would eat the size you have, find they are not as hot but a good start, you can always add a couple if it's the heat you want.

Re: Mid Summer Bits and Bobs.

I only cover new beds for the first time to get ride of the weeds, beds that have been productive once are replanted.

I am in the process of adding 4 new 12ft x 4ft beds which will get the usual cardboard, compost & covered in plastic treatment over winter.

Re: Mid Summer Bits and Bobs.

So no wearing flip flops or open toed shoes anymore.

I use black plastic a lot to cover the beds when starting them off so will proceed with extreme caution in the future.
