Lead Poisoning from tomatoes
Hello all on this lovely sunny evening in Sussex... I have a large ledge (around 2ft by 3ft) outside my bedroom window that is covered in lead. I have grown some small basket style tomatoes in a couple of tubs, along with lettuce and basil on this very sunny window ledge and they have been very happ...

Re: Confusing Lettuce
Thanks Johnboy,
I have felt the seeds, and combined with the number theory I have marked the flat seeds (107163B) as WD, and will sow them this weekend as long as I can find a suitable container. Then cross fingers the slugs don't find them and wait!

Re: Confusing Lettuce
Interesting, because both my packets just say lettuce, and the letters following the numbers don't match, but your winter denisity numbers match mine, just with a B instead of your A, so I am going to plant those ones and see what happens. I just would have thought all the packets would have had the...

Tomato happy
This isn't a question, just so happy to report that I have just picked the first ripe tomatoe I could see from my bedroom window (growing on sunny ledge outside) and found 5 to pick!! It is amazing the joy and acheivement a few small plants can give p.s. on the all important husband taste test they ...

Re: black skins on sweet peppers
I saw my first ladybird this year just this afternoon! I can't believe how few flying insect there are this year around us (not a single honey bee seen all summer in this garden) and there are no intensive farming practises, it is mainly grazing land hereabouts. I thought I saw an amazing photo of l...

Re: Runner Beans not setting
Hello Geoff,
Can I just say what a beautiful row of beans. I am sure you would be happier with beans on them too, but the row looks fantastic!

Re: Lettuce - Winter Density & Lambs lettuce
Thank you all. I think from that I can go for the 107163 B as the Winter Density. I don't value my own judgement at all with no experience of lettuce beyond throwing in a few freebie packets of cut and come again stuff which of course has all sorts of differing seeds. The cos lettuces I have came as...

Lettuce - Winter Density & Lambs lettuce
A free packet containing the above seeds came with the September issue of KG. Can anyone tell me which packet contains which seeds? I only have "Lettuce" and a series of numbers printed on the white packets. 1. Lettuce 53426/U 2. Lettuce 107163 B We like lettuce, but are not too keen on th...

Re: Garlic
On the subject of garlic, I planted some cloves of garlic brought back from France in April under a 'bung it in and see what happens' policy. Well the cloves have now become very small bulbs, so my question is: Can I now use these small bulbs to plant in the late autumn - I understand this is a more...
