Re: What I learned about strawberries...
Oh the strawberries love the pallet construction. There are so many, even on one plant! No doubt we eat with our eyes quite often. I think that's why restaurants turn their dishes into an art form. I've once photographed at a restaurant and their cook spent more time styling the dish than actually c...

Re: What I learned about strawberries...
I did not know they were the only fruit that do this!
Now I'm trying to think of any other fruit that does but I can't come up with one example

What I learned about strawberries...
There is a variety of strawberries that is completely white when ripe. It's hard to see exactly when that is, but I figured the seeds on the fruit should all be colored red for the fruit to be completely ripe and ready to eat. Green seeds means unripe strawberries. How fascinating! I also learned th...

Re: End of Spring Bits and Bobs.
I've decided to just dump it on top of the garden soil and mix in a lot of compost from a nearby farmer who is happy to lose some. They have cows and they mix in cow dumps. If anybody has some ideas I'd be happy to try them out! Just noticed I accidentally switched the pictures above. Got the right ...

You can use the tiny white label at the bottom of the tomato plants as a reference for how large they are.

Re: End of Spring Bits and Bobs.
Actually I am running an experiment. Half of my tomatoes are in a pot outside and the other half is in the soil in the greenhouse. The tomatoes outdoors are about half the size and don't have flowers yet. Cucumbers outdoors are probably not going to survive for me but inside the greenhouse they are ...

Re: Wooden strawberry pallet walls
Lettuce could be placed in those wooden pallet planters as well, and pretty much any other small plant that doesn't take up too much root space. The root cloth is to prevent the roots of my plants from reaching outside of the plants container area. I have folded a rectangle inside the container spac...

Re: Wooden strawberry pallet walls
Luckily they are easy to replace. I wonder how they'll do after the first growing year. As for what Westi said, I don't want to ruin the neighbours new fence but I might put up a few more pallets here and there

Re: Wooden strawberry pallet walls
Those slugs sure won't like to slither up the splintery pallet wood! I'm planning to place some more pallets indeed. I can still dig something in between the strawberries so it's not too late yet, untill they have rooted up the entire blocks.
