Re: I am back ....

Thank you for your kind words, OH. I am sure you all managed very well without me! And just to update everybody: our grandson with terminal cancer passed away very peacefully at home at the end of February. He was up and about and fooling about with his little lad and his three young nieces until tw...

Re: Early Spring Bits and Bobs.

We had frost the night before last and a bit more is 'promised ' for the next two nights before the wind turns west, at last. But still no rain!!! The blackbirds, now feeding their young who are hiding under shrubs, are desperately digging for worms and bugs on the vegetable beds and thus half diggi...

I am back ....

Wow, it's been a long time. Last November my computer said "This connection is not private" every time I tried to access the KG Forum. I have now solved the problem (I think), so, here I am back, folks! Hopefully, it will last.

Re: Please can we have some more 'funnies'?

The recent report of a rise in the UK's number of centenarians reminded me of an item in the BBC Tonight programme about 40 years ago (remember Cliff Michelmore?): their reporter Fyfe Robertson interviewed two gentlemen in Cornwall who had just had their 100th birthday and asked them for the secret ...

Re: Late Summer Bits and Bobs 2021.

I know the feeling, Westi! We had proper rain two days ago which was then followed by yesterday's lovely sunny autumn day, albeit with blustery wind. Our green manure is shooting up and enjoying the damp ground.

Re: Human composting ??

My OH and I have donated our bodies to a medical school which apparently has no age limit for the 'gifts'. Otherwise, cremation and scattered anywhere. Presumably the ash will fertilise the ground somewhere, but I do like your idea of a biomass boiler, Geoff!

Re: Slug traps

We have seen very few slugs this year and even fewer snails which tend to be more numerous around here (because of the limestone walls. I think). August was dry for us (except for one very rainy day) and September is proving even drier. I have even put the sprinkler on to give the green manure a moi...

Re: Late Summer Bits and Bobs 2021.

I plant ours the moment it arrives from DTBrown which is usually at the very end of September. This year it's going to be Provence Wight and Mersley Wight which have grown very well the last two years. But I don't plant them into the ground but into individually into divided trays. They stay in the ...

Re: Late Summer Bits and Bobs 2021.

Absolutely gorgeous autumn weather here for the last few days. Dawn to dusk sunshine, clear nights (we have been watching the moon grow, Jupiter and Saturn and the International Space Station!). Down to 6C last night. Off now to do lots of watering!

Hello Steve, panic over! I was ceremoniously handed the KG October copy in our village shop this morning. Many thanks for your offer.
Best wishes and thank you for a great monthly magazine, Monika

KG mag shortage?

Hello KG team, is there a shortage of the October issue? Our village shop (where the KG magazine has been on order for many years) cannot get any copies from their wholesalers (Menzies in Wakefield, I believe), none of the newsagents or supermarkets seem to have copies. Westi on the KG Forum has kin...

Re: Blanching before freezing.

I have always blanched all my vegetables other than courgettes which I just slice and freeze and use in soups. It does ensure, I think, that the frozen food is ok for 12 months, until the new fresh stuff is available. I would not keep unblanched frozen vegetables for more than six months. BUT I may ...
