Re: Sweet and more'ish . . .

I love the Moonlight beans - but don't let them get too big as they do get a bit tough. You'll only end up throwing them away. Stick to picking them young.

Peculiar plant growing in the border.

I planted a pecular plant in the spring and now have completely forgotten the name of it. It looks like a large chive-y, garlicky, onion-y thing....comes up and then the growing tip does a complete loop and the carries on growing upwards again. On top is a thing that looks like a clove of garlic in ...

Re: Light Boxes

I suffer from SAD too and a few years ago I put a daylight bulb into my bedside lamp (for reading). I switch it on first thing (when it's the darker mornings) and again at night when I go to bed. I usually read for about half an hour / to an hour - and the daylight bulb made a huge difference during...

My Moonlights were started off in the greenhouse and planted out late May and are doing extremely well. Had the first picking yesterday and they are delicious. Well recommended.

Origanum vulgare 'Aureum' in the lawn.

I have patches of golden marjoram growing in the lawn and can't get rid of it. It started off last year, in small patches, and has spread now over a quarter of the lawn. We mow regularly, but it's still there. We've put weedkiller down too - but it's still there! And the patches are getting bigger. ...

Re: Hedgehog stops play

Found this about coughing hedgehogs - Lung worm is a parasite that occurs naturally in hedgehogs but, in a healthy hog, it will be kept to a manageable level. It is when the hedgehog's immunity is low - due to disease, injury, or dangerous weight loss - that the lung worm will take hold. Lung worm c...

Re: damage to plants by cats

My cats would look with horror at a bit of dry earth and stalks....they much prefer the sofa and the chairs.....stretching out so much that we have to scrunch ourselves up in the corners

Lightly stewed rhubarb (no sugar) is a wonderful sauce to go with oily fish, such as mackerel.
