Re: 2 stroke starting problems.year 2017.
Hello R with an H I think what you are seeing on an oily carb is a fuel mx leak. The petrol is evaporating around the leak and leaving the oil. I have a couple of Stihl 2 strokes - chainsaw and strimmer - and they are great. A few pulls and off we go - start well even when engine is hot. I always us...

Re: Growing watercress
Hello P In the warmer months the plants just keep running straight to flower - this is what they probably do naturally - and its difficult to keep the compost wet all the time. I have in the past also kept the seed trays in larger gravel trays half filled with those expanded clay granules such as Hy...

Re: Growing watercress
During the winter I grow watercress from cuttings. The cuttings come from the stuff you buy in the supermarket bags. I choose the ends of the thicker stalks (often they already have some simple roots showing) and pot them into small pots or 3 x 2 little modules. They root quickly and then get moved ...

Re: Update needed perhaps.
Well I'm all alone here now nobody else is online - not even those nice web crawler chaps that are usually about. I've been here for many years and like some others was here in previous incarnations of the KG forum. It hasn't really ever changed very much in terms of member numbers. Some stay on and...

Oops - ordered some slips a few weeks ago and waiting for a delivery. Doesn't sound as though they are worth bothering with. I'll give them a try as I've spent the money. Always like to try one or two new things each year.

Re: Raspberries
Hello Binky Red leaves on most plants is usually a sign of a lack of potassium - though I can't find any reports for this in raspberries. Do you feed your plants? I always sprinkle some good handfuls of fish blood and bone down my row of rasps. This is slow release and will last them for the season....

Hello Lynda
Put it somewhere where it will do the most good such as underneath your runner beans, peas or in the lettuce bed.
Only use it for mulching if you have plenty to spare - like most us though you'll never have enough to spare.

Re: Tips on manure
It looks rotted. What does it smell like? If it smells like a farmyard then it needs storing a bit longer. If it doesn't have any distinct odour then it is well rotted and ready to use. I agree with OH about keeping it away from carrots - they will fork badly if grown in recently manured soil. Use i...

Hello VM
It has to be a pressure cooker. The old gadgets are still the best.
Cooking times are about 1/3 of normal and flavour is often better.
Our trusty Prestige is still going strong after nearly 40 years and you can still get the spares - amazing!

D. Trump - the joke is now a reality and we will all suffer the consequences. Garrison Keillor’s satirical Donald Trump sermon The Lord is my shepherd. OK? Totally. Big league. He is a tremendous shepherd. The best. No comparison. I know more than most people about herding sheep. And that’s why I wo...

Re: strawberry safety!
Hi RP I use a good layer of straw under the plants. Before putting down the straw I run a soaker hose either side of the row and sprinkle a few slug pellets around. The rows get netted soon after strawing. This usually works well though if there is a prolonged spell of damp around fruiting time a lo...
