Hedgehog House

There's an advert for a hedgehog house (£28) in our usual weekend newspaper. I dunno if it might be worth getting. Of course I want to be kind to hedgehogs and offer one a nice home. But I've never seen a hedgehog anywhere near here and I'm inclined to think the 'house' would be taken over by some r...

House move imminent so it's full-on here

Our rental contract of the flat ends on Tuesday so it's full-on this weeknd. Yeah, I know we've had plenty of time to do something before, but we didn't for various reasons. Our house is in chaos with boxes and goodness know what all else and we need to get the flat emptied. We decided to have a hou...

Re: Picalilli

I've never made picalilli. There are some chefs/cooks/bakers whose recipes I absolutely trust, eg Paul Hollywood for baking and to some extent cooking. When it comes to cooking some just seem nuts to me. Mary Berry, for example, I suppose she can bake but she can't cook for peanuts. Urgh. :( I'm not...

Re: Autumn Bits and Bobs.

I remember several years ago there was such a storm in Aberdeen. The Aberdeen Harbour Master was interviewed on the telly.

The interviewer asked, "What's the wind speed now?"

The Habour Master replied, "I don't know but it's just blown a Land Rover off the cliff".

Blimey.

Re: Stupid job titles

Hi Darui,

Do you live anywhere near North Kent? I'd like us to meet up if poss. :D

We've been out of the country for years and now we've come back to Blighty have no friends. (It's OK, we can cope. But I'm trying to create some sort of social life for us.)

Re: Cod liver oil

Well, in its favour, and I don't know if it's a coincidence, I've been a bit more robust since I've been taking it. I was very frail and shaky before and now I'm raring to go. Maybe it's just the bravery of tackling the stuff and necking it that provides extra confidence. Or maybe it is actually doi...

Re: Cod liver oil

He says he looked for the smallest capsules he could get, anticipating my distaste for giant blobs of medical things to swallow. I think I'll have to continue with the bottled stuff for now. At least I can get it down my neck with some wine to follow.

Cod liver oil

Is my husband trying to kill me? After a discussion we decided that a daily dose of cod liver oil might do me some good. He bought capsules. Fair enough. Good idea. But it was like trying to swallow a pickled egg in one. (Not that I've tried that. I wouldn't eat a pickled egg anyway.) I didn't like ...

Re: Autumn Bits and Bobs.

Thanks, OH.

I've bought nettle seeds. Yeah, bizarre to buy seed for what most people consider to be a weed. I'm wondering if I'll need to start them inside and grow on outside. The idea is to harvest in the spring. Any ideas/opinions? I really have no idea what I'm doing. :)

Re: Having one of those days!

My husband also said he didn't like rabbit - for the too many bones reason. We bought one and I cooked it and painstaking picked out all the bones before I served it. He liked it. With a lot of foods it's a cultural thing and squeamishness. I would never have had raw fish as a child and thought it w...

What's the difference between Bing Crosby and Walt Disney?

Bing sings and Walt Disney.

Oh, maybe you have to be Scottish for that one.

Not exactly pizza

Supermarket pizzas are often bowf. And our local pizza shops aren't that great either. I like to make my own but I can't be bothered making the pizza dough today. Yeah, I know you can buy pizza bases from the shops. Can't say I'm interested. What we're doing is using panini (halved horizontally and ...

Re: Husband just spotted a mouse in the kitchen

Dunno what's happened to it. No sign of any overnight activity on the worktops, ie sh!ts. Husband found more gaps to plug yesterday (some new skirting board) so maybe it's gone out and can't get back in. Maybe the poison in our traps got it and we'll know by the smell in a few days time. Or maybe I'...
