Re: Your local Last Frost date
I think some people's beans were also affected. Like you Chantal, mine are yet to go out.

Re: Your local Last Frost date
There was a frost here in the Chilterns earlier this week. Definately some damage to some people's potatoes. Those lower on the slope were more badly damaged than those higher; I think the trees which overlook my plot helped to protect mine, which appear to be only slightly frosted.

Re: R***l W*****G
I shall be with my father, who has his 87th birthday that day. Neither he nor I have any desire to watch the event, but no doubt we shall be "treated" to some highlights on every news bulletin for the next 24 hours or so. There is little point in trying to avoid it completely. OTOH: My sis...

The latest news?
So does anyone here worry about http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/gardening-blog/2011/apr/26/gardens what they wear when they garden? Like most people, I wear clothes which have already lost their place as more presentable items. Jeans with holes in the knees, old fleeces, polo shirts with logo...

Re: Watering: best from a can or a hosepipe?
Lucky us in Berkhamsted. Between the 42 plots we have 3 have tanks, each with a tap. So we can use hosepipes or watering cans. I have not seen sprinklers (but I suppose that someone could start last thing at night and return first thing in the morning). Lots of people use cans rather than hoses (the...

Re: Rhubarb Flowers
Thanks.
Indeed there are lots of rhubarb flowers on the allotments (not on mine curiously). I guess that one variety has been split and distributed amongst the plot-holders.
Curious how people just leave them (or may be are not visiting often ).
If I saw anyone on those plots I would advise them

Rhubarb Flowers
I have cut these off my rhubarb, as advised in the books.
Any comments on how low to make the cut? As the stems are hollow, does water caught in the stem cause any problems?

Re: Tuck up your wormery
Mike
Like you I have just dug out the wormery and got some good stuff from the bottom half. Thank goodness for the warm weather.
Like you I add quite a lot of cardboard and paper (I keep a box of torn-up stuff in the kitchen)

I can't stand the stuff.
However, you are right, there must be vast margins, the supermarkets have aisles full of it.

Re: Invasive raspberries
Thanks for the responses. It's not a "problem" but I did notice the difference. All the escapees I dug out in January were rehomed in their designated place. Those poping up now will just be discarded (the bed is pretty full of canes). None of the plants are particularly old (although mode...

That's great news.
I am very tempted to try strawberries in hanging baskets (I'm sure I have seen pictures of this).

Invasive raspberries
Do others find that the primocane autumn fruiting raspberries more invasive than the traditional summer fruiting ones? I am delighted with the performance of my autumn fruiting ones and they are very easy to manage but I do need to dig out developing canes from adjacent beds and ground. It is less o...

On the forum I use most frequently, the most popular abbreviations are SWMBO (being about cars, most posters are men) TADTS (They all do that, Sir) BTDT (Been there, done that) sometimes with a GTTS added AFAIR (As far as I remember) and there are many more Yes, there I do use these sets of initials...
