Basil,
It should be between 6 and 10thou for both valves.
Sounds like you should pull the head off and check the bore, piston and valve seats.
On the positive side all parts are available but you need to be quick because the weeds are growing fast now!

Loganberries in the wild
Loganberries are maybe not quite as prolific, but have you ever been to Ireland or the west coast of Scotland and seen the rhododendron? it's a major problem on some of the west coast estates, they have to keep chopping it down and burning it, even so I am not sure they are keeping up with it. It do...

Spark plugs
You can get modern equivalent spark plugs from m The nut in the middle of the flywheel is usually a 7/8" (22mm) if that is what you mean, Villiers flywheels have a built in puller to remove them, just undo the nut give it a squirt of wd40 and keep unscrewing it when it goes tight. There is no t...

Hyacinths
My son brought some Hyacinth bulbs home from school.
we put them in pots in a dark cupboard for a while then took them out and they have flowered beautifully, with a lovely smell.
The flowers are now dying off, what do we do with them now
Thanks, Kev

Allen V (the inferior) mayfield
Hortiman, How can you claim the mayfield to be greener than an allen? Most Allen scythes are all green apart from maybe a red fuel tank and yellow lettering on the wheels. And I know for a fact that Mayfiels have a red chassis Tell you what we could have a longevity trial. Park an Allen and a mayfie...

"people" shouldn't fiddle!
My McCulloch strimmer has little plastic tags on the mixture screws and they will only adjust 1/2 a turn, I guess those "fiddling people" have snaped the tags off. Don't really won't to snap my tags off to find the setting. So I can only suggest you come out a couple of turns and err on th...

Mc Culloch
I have used a Mc c. strimmer for the last ten years and never had any problems with it, it's only a cheap small one with the bent type shaft but it does the job ok. I also have a Mc C. chainsaw which has been nothing short of excellent it starts first pull even after leaving it for months. My tip of...
