leek pips

Hi All,

I am growing some leeks from pips. Will these leeks be bigger and better than last year, or will they be just the same as leeks grown from seeds?, is there any advantage from growing from pips??.

Thanks for your help,

regards

Re: A 'different' plant to try this year.

I am having a go at Kaibroc. This is a kind of broccoli cross which is ready quickly from planting, and produces many secondary shoots from the sides which are said to be sweet and plenyfull.

Has anybody else tried to grow this :?:

Re: Lidl garden stuff

Hi All,

I dashed down first thing this morning and got some compost maker x2 and grass seed, bird nuts, secateurs ( not worried if they only last a season), and lilly bulbs.

The assistant said she thought they would sell out quickly because they had been very busy with the gardening stuff.

Re: green manure in polly

Hi All, thanks for your replys. ugh does not seem such a good idea, from the replys so far. I havee never tried any green manure inside or outside. I have always been worried about the grow back of the green manure in the beds and some of them are a bit problematic with planting etc. Regards Tracie

Re: samphire

Hi all, samphire update. We have had 1 small cutting from the plant with another one to follow soon. I must admit that it will I think take a long time to get a decent crop/plant size. The plants have been put into a 7 " pot with compost and a lot of sand mixed. Originally it grew on the kitche...

Re: Comfrey

Yes bocking 14 is the one I have and you can get 3 good harvests a year. I usually cut the first 2 loads down and lay the first lot under the rasberry canes . The second lot I put beneath my outdoor toms. It rots down very quickly, adding nutrition and a mulch at the same time. The last lot I cut do...

Re: Comfrey

The best way I know is to find somebody who has some on their plot and talk to them nicely and see if they will give you a root cutting.

Re: VARMITS

Hi, We have had the same problem this season and I think the problem is only going to get worse not better. Rabbits are our biggest problem this year, I have ended up fencing my whole plot which has cost approx £100.00 but I am only going to do it once, and when you consider if you purchase a rotiva...

Re: Red lettuces

Hi, this is probably not the vairety you are looking for but Marshalls do a fantastic red Lettu :P ce called "Marshalls".

It is an upright vairety, a bit like a romanesco and it is the best lettuce I have ever had, and I dont like lettuce.

Re: Garlic

Hi, yes I think it is rabbits (please read Ugh Rabbits). I have just made a tabasco spray, the instructions for which I found on line. This is to spray onto the plants so the rabbits do not like the taste. I have only just made it and I will be able to try it tomorrow. I will report back on my findi...
