Re: Festive yet?

I hide behind the having of pets to avoid the tuts & Oh Dears when I say we don't put up the tree. It is legit as the cat burnt its mouth chewing the lead to the lights one year & the dog trod on a broken ornament, both resulting in a vet trip. Truth is I'm a bit bah humbug & can't see t...

Re: Wanderers

Our police were very good when we had issues & even waited out in a shed at night to catch the vandals. Took them a couple of nights but they got the teenagers. They continue to do walk arounds (scared the living daylights out of me one evening), & are becoming a bigger part of the allotment...

I'm with you Diane! Summer's coming! Hope it's nice & extended like last years, hopefully if Spring plays it's part & arrives correctly then it will be a very short winter.

Re: Please can we have some more 'funnies'?

Two hillbillies walk into a restaurant. While having a bite to eat, they talk about their moonshine operation. Suddenly, a woman at a nearby table, who is eating a sandwich, begins to cough. After a minute or so, it becomes apparent that she is in real distress. One of the hillbillies looks at her a...

Re: Ruddy Pigeons

Good point OH! I did think mice but thought they would take the seed as well but they were still in the ground. Might not be next time I go down though - I will check again!

Re: Ruddy Pigeons

Right at the base MW & funnily all laying the same way just as if they'd gone along from one to the other for a bit of fun! They haven't actually eaten them so obviously prefer the brassicas for a nibble & these for entertainment purposes!

Ruddy Pigeons

Grrrr! Wind blew up the edge of the evironmesh over the broad beans. Not only did the pigeons nip through the stems of all the broad beans that were uncovered in that corner, one of them was obviously bold enough to go under the rest of the cover that was still weighted down & nip through nearly...

Re: Sprouts

I've got club root on my plot as well leeshaun01! Don't necessarily grow resistant varieties but plant what appeals from the blurb in the seed catalogues, when big & healthy & I lime big time! Unfortunately can see the progression of the club root from the back of the plot toward the front, ...

Re: Just found out why I can't get brussels-tops.

That's sacrilege! Mine might be tiny but the tops have not been munched at all - still a bit of whitefly but can't taste them! :D

I wonder if they known there is a potential market for them? Best not let them know or you won't be able to afford them!

Re: BACON

Indeed Primrose & Tigger! Note the prices don't go back down when the 'fad' is over either! Another thing I'd buy is pork fillet in one piece & would get several meals out of it by preparing it into little Steaks or dices before freezing - now all I seem to find is 3 measly slices on a polys...

Re: Sprouts

Mine are pathetic too Beryl. I have sprouts of a good size but the plants look like miniatures the stalk is so short. I'd be lucky to get 10 off them! I'm not that keen on them so only grew a couple of plants so fortunately just enough for mother-in-law's Xmas dinner.

Weird Year!

Today down at lottie I went into clearing mode - we've had a frost so clearing & mulching the dahlia beds so thought might just as well tidy up the raspberries & mulch them seeing I found a nice pile of well rotted manure. After munching on at least 20 ripe raspberries I completed the job - ...
