the simple answere is its impossibe, either shut the cat in there every night, which will probably do more damage, or use mousetraps, ive got a selection of the sprung wooden ones on the bench with the seed trays. or u could try the river cottage approach and ask them to leave quietly, i cant rememb...

planted some broad beans in trays in the tunnel today, the ice on the bath outside didnt melt today or yesterday, though today seems alot warmer. spring aint got to somerset yet

distilling whisky is illegal, but i somewhere i heard about a canadian drink called applejack, basically u bury a barrel of apple wine in the snow. wait till the water freezes, take the ice out and u are left with the alcohol, least i think that was the method.

having tasted my father's brews and then my own, including the sprout, i now only use blackberries or plums both of which we have plenty of. the only other base i would consider using is apples,though extracting the juice is more work than the soft fruits and results are dependant on variety.

i grew some in a plastic baby bath last year, got two old toilets to try this year just to wind up the kids ( and the missus!!). our garden soil is shallow and stoney so am now using a variety of pots and containers , even a couple of baths, for carrots. usually use a mix of soil, compost and manure...

first is a lock on the shed door, otherwise the tools dissapeer, when slightly older mow the lawn without the grass collecter and pay pennies for buckets of lawn mowings delivered to the compost heap, will keep the mercenary little b's ammused for hours,

an old neighbour of ours used to grow a large patch of spuds using a grey fergy tractor and a single furrow plough, so it can be done. but if you can find a ridger it does a better job.

some will call me a cynic, but you wont see any scientific trials of planting by the moon, who is going to fund the trials to prove it works if they cant sell moonlight??
