Re: 2016 - how was it for you?

This year was a year of discovery for me - first year growing things... Tomatoes: I will grow again F1 Crimson Crush (also blight resistant and very tasteful) as well as San Marzano (great for sauce). I'll investigate those you list as I am in preparatory mode for next year Beetroot: they all did su...

OMG Geoff, zero tree mile for you! Great selection.

Show me your.... Christmas Tree

We got our tree this weekend as the next ones are too busy, so we thought we would start early (any excuse really). It lives in the conservatory so will be nicely chilled at night - that's the idea so a few needles might still be on the branches arrive Christmas. At the sale I got a single strand of...

Re: Weekend Plans?

Amazing sunshine this morning, so off for a walk. - I wish there was some weeding I could do in the garden (never thought I would write that) to enjoy the sun but seeing as EVERYTHING is covered in a lovely white frost, I suspect it is just wishful thinking and it will be quite nippy outside... So a...

Re: Weekend Plans?

Same here in Kent the frost was good enough to blacken the dahlia leaves, so the tubers are now coming out and we can make some sense of the front lawn and cut flower patch which looks so untidy! All the leaves have now fallen down from the trees, so I will be vacuuming a bit to tidy the garden up.....

Re: publishing date ofDecember issue

How very odd to read the January issue when it is only November.
Nothing wrong, just saying.
Feels like I missed Christmas 'n all though.

Re: shop garlic growing?

The garlic is growing nicely I am pleased to report. Shoots are 5/7 centimetres high already! And no signs of slugs.
Feeling happy about that.
Nothing much else growing in the garden apart from stones and fallen leaves...

Re: SMART METER

Yes Geoff I just saw this, thanks!. I was planning to add a comment over the weekend on this thread to recommend them as I am on GB Energy Supply and they were definitely the cheapest around! I tried to shop around a couple of months ago and could not find anyone cheaper. It was nice while it lasted...

Tarragon

Hello, This summer I brought back from France a nice looking plant of (French) tarragon which liked living in my herb raised planter. It had three nice looking branches and i harvested a reasonable amount for immediate consumption. I thought I would be smart and bring it inside ahead of the fall and...

Re: Bargain Basement

I use premier seeds on Amazon, I'm afraid I had a terrible experience with ordering seeds on Amazon earlier this year. While I use Amazon for a lot of things (I do not have a car so Internet shopping is bliss), I do find their marketplace sellers very confusing sometimes. For this particular unfort...

Re: Looking for traditional duck stew in red wine recipes

which ever recipe you do - if you do a stew, do it the day before and just reheat on the night. One it will save you time on the day to do other stuff, but two, over that day waiting, the meat will tenderise and all the juices will fuse into something quite magical.

Re: Hasselback Potatoes

We love them at home - and they do impress when served. You will need a potato that keeps its shape, something waxy. We usually get Charlotte.
A lot of our recipe books call for Yukon Gold, but I have never managed to find any here - when I search it brings back US sites...

First frost here in Kent (within M25) this morning -only in the 'back' garden, not the small front 'lawn' yet. Getting the garden ready for winter now...
