Re: The Great Allotment Challenge
As someone new to growing stuff, I thought there were a few interesting parts. I've just watched the first episode and learned: 1) you are supposed to nip out the side shoots on sweet peas for best results 2) it's not a good idea to plant things in the middle of your peas 3) you can get a crop of rh...

Re: When is my Broccoli ready?
It seems be doing what you said. I now have some side shoots that look like they are ready for eating (probably more that the original lot). I guess the trick is to cut above any side shoots until it look like it's had its time.... I have one plant that just does not seem to be growing a head (it lo...

Parsnips in containers?
Hi there, I'm thinking about growing some parsnips in containers (that's my only option). I'm wondering about using some of the bags that you use for growing potato's in. I have some and they appear to be about 17" deep / 45 cm and about 30cm wide. Does anybody think that might work? How many w...

Thanks for that. So are you saying I should just harvest all the larger purple bits, but leave some of the smaller ones on?
Also, there is another one that looks the same except the head is purple with bits of green. Is this a bad sign?

When is my Broccoli ready?
Hi there, I've never grown Broccoli before (or very much at all), and I'm wondering if my Broccoli is nearly ready. I'm concerned because I'm about to go away for a week and I'd hate to harvest it too late or too soon. Note I don't know what type they are. It's about 50cm tall. Any advice would be w...

Size of Potato container
Hi there, I have acquired a large plastic barrel that is about 0.9 meters high and about 0.6Meters wide that somebody was using as a water barrel. Unfortunately it has a bad leak, so I am wondering about growing potato's in it. However, I'm wondering how deep to fill it and whether I should cut to t...
