Re: May 2009 Poll
having just noticed that no poll has been posted since May, is that symptomatic of the lack of interest from users? and the explanation as to why nothing more up to date is about?

Re: Unseasonal seedlings
that may explain why the broad beans I sowed only a few weeks ago in rootrainers have come up so strongly - but never mind, they'll come in useful. I've cleard a little bit of ground on the slightly overgrown allotment I've just come into possession of and planted the beans in it, with a tunnel cloc...

Re: New Potatoes for Autumn
I bought Carlingford with the idea of having new potatoes for Christmas; I planted them in 3 sacks of fresh compost in the FRONT garden (and anyway I'd had no blight in the back garden on any of my tomato plants) and all 3 bags have gone down with blight, well before there was any chance of getting ...

Re: Disappointing courgette plants
I grew two plants of a new type to me and had a disappointing result - in fact, I've had a bad summer all round to be honest; no courgettes at all on this yellow variety which was supposed to be a heavy cropper; no sweetcorn, no runner beans either out on the plot or as dwarf beans in a tub......

wish I'd known about the blight problem before I ordered some - I've lost the lot to blight well before there was any chance of even the smallest tubers...

cucumber seeds
I'm planning to collect a few seeds from an all female cucumber grown this year - would it be ok to store them overwinter in a large plastic tub (with a packet of dessicant) or would a paper bag be preferable?

treated carrot seeds
I've been sent a 'complimentary' packet of carrot seeds - but I'm dubious about sowing them; I try to be organic and these are marked 'treated with Iprodione Thiram and Metalaxyl - can anyone enlighten me as to what these are?

Re: bolting spinach
well perpetual or true spinach is largely academic for the next 2/3 weeks.......I've done one of my usual totally stupid tricks and broken my toe by getting it caught in the lane dividing cord at the swimming pool of all things........
