Re: What is "well rotted" manure?

My farmer friend delivers manure to me when he cleans out the calf house. I cover and leave for about a year after which time it does cut like peat but breaks up nicely and as Geoff says, there is little evidence of straw by this time. As Pa Snip says, sand breaks up the soil. For many years, sand (...

Re: Best tasting Potato Varieties?

Jethro,
Golden Wonder is the main crop of choice in my neck of the woods.
I don't have any knowledge of Champion I'm affraid, but floury potatoes are the favoured ones here.

Re: Glorious Spring Bits and Bobs.

You are all very lucky.
Relentless rain all day yesterday with mist in the morning.
Today not much better, thick fog and at 10.30am only 10c in the pollytunnel and the greenhouse managed 14c.

Re: Spread Sheet

Hi Colin,

A few years ago I was given a present of a CD-ROM by BBC Gardeners' World Magazine with Alan Tichmarsh and GW team, called "Garden Manager" and contains a "Extensive plant database to customise".

I don't know if this is any help.

Regards,
Gerry.

Our doctors surgery is on the site of the old slaughter house (I can't spell the French name), just across the road from the grave yard.

Primrose have a look at http://www.lumigrowth.com/light-essential/

It's about growlights but it gives a good insight into colours of light and how plants use them.

I'm with Pa Snip and Shallot Man on this one. They only want to sell you something. Dammed if I'm going to help them.

Re: Best tasting Potato Varieties?

The most popular over here is British Queen. It's a second early, is very floury, doesn't boil too well, but is perfect steamed. Usually they are cooked and served in their skin which bursts open showing the floury white flesh.
