Has anyone tried bran to attract slugs and snails. Put some bran around the plant you want to protect, the slugs will eat the bran instead. You didn't say how deep the root were. Nettle roots don't go very deep, and I think couch are thiner and white. My guess is bind weed. If it gets restricted it dose bunch up. Like the others said you'll find out soon.

Tip: If your Brussels or cabbages didn't heart up, leave them in and when the flower buds appear, pick and lightly steam or eat raw in salads. A real bonus when there's little about on the veg plot.
